John Zeggert
Artist. Observer. Unflinching narrator of the inner world.
John Zeggert is a contemporary mixed media artist whose work centers on the intersection of personal truth and shared human experience. His practice is rooted in introspection—exploring the psychological weight we carry, the memories we suppress, and the identities we assemble over time.
Working primarily with found materials, layered textures, and gestural abstraction, John creates compositions that feel both intimate and universal. His visual language is raw yet deliberate, informed by a deep emotional intelligence and a willingness to sit with discomfort. The result is work that doesn’t offer easy answers but instead opens space for reflection, connection, and conversation.
Based in Pennsylvania, John uses his art as both personal process and public dialogue. As Artist Advocate for Anno Artem Gallery’s What We Carry exhibition, he brings a rare authenticity to the conversation around mental health—bridging vulnerability with advocacy, and aesthetics with empathy.

Isn’t it weird how many versions of you exist in peoples minds? Some know you as the shy person that doesn’t talk. Some know you as the annoying person that won’t stop talking. Some see you cold & mean. Others find you caring & kind.
The gist is, the person you think of yourself exists only for you. And even you don’t know who that really is. Every person you meet, have a relationship with, or make eye contact on the street with creates a version of you in their heads. You’re not the same person for your Mom, your Dad or your siblings than you are to your coworkers, your neighbors or your friends. There are a thousand different versions of yourself out there in peoples minds and a YOU exists in each version. And yet your YOU itself isn’t anyone at all.

The Masks We Wear

Love Lives On
I think most of us can relate to the idea that sometimes, the person or people we need most to help us through a specific issue, trauma or experience are no longer with us. And I think the older we get, inevitably the more frequent the problem.

Threads
For me, when I start a romantic relationship, it’s as if I take all the lessons I’ve learned about what I bring, what I need, and what doesn’t work based on previous attempts.. and I hide them all in a bouquet upon meeting. It’s all a very careful balance of chemistry, timing and wiring. And it all dangles on the golden threads of hope.

Doing Great, Thanks. How’re You?
I created this for my Melancholy & Madness solo collection because I wanted one statement piece that tied together everything I wanted to say if you were standing in front of me.
Frequently, I’ve used physical elements of the subject I’m painting to lend more weight to the story, but with this, I wanted to let you in deeper than I ever had.
With any luck, you’ve already walked around, catching some of my work, maybe judging my techniques or talking to friends or strangers about something or someone they’ve made you think of.
And now here, at the end, it’s just you & I. And I’m staring back at you, made of the only ingredients I’ve ever thought of myself as; shit & tears. No matter my successes or my accomplishments, it’s all I’ve ever known.
If you understand, you’re not alone. Not even close.
