My name is Ewelina Nowakowska, and I work under the name The Concrete Muse. I create abstract photography and mixed media work grounded in concrete as both material and metaphor. I’m drawn to weathered surfaces, cracks and erosion. Guided by apophenia, my work seeks to capture unexpected patterns in the otherwise overlooked, revealing something emotionally resonant and quite mysterious.

Born in Gdańsk, Poland, and shaped by living across Europe and the United States, my work is deeply influenced by architecture. My process is intuitive and tactile, moving between photographic series that approach concrete in different ways, from heavily filtered abstractions in Monoliths to macro imagery focused on raw detail in Murals and Realism. I also work directly with concrete on canvas, exploring abstraction and kintsugi inspired methods by breaking and repairing surfaces with gilded adhesives.

I began making art in 2010 as a coping mechanism, and it has since evolved into a sustained exploration of existentialism, resilience, and beauty.

Tower Over Me With Barriers

My work is grounded in concrete, both as material and metaphor. Through photography and mixed media, I engage with surfaces shaped by time, exposure and use. Cracks, rust, and erosion narrate endurance and impermanence. By isolating, reframing and transforming it leads me to these musings. I invite you into a meditation on presence, resilience, and poetry hidden in the ordinary.
