Acrylic On Canvas - This piece, “You’re Not Listening”, is part of a series of tronies I’ve been working on—loose, expressive studies that focus more on emotion than on who the person actually is. With this one, I leaned into that feeling of frustration that builds when you’re trying to be heard and it’s just not landing. The colors are pushed and a little chaotic on purpose, and the features are slightly distorted to match that intensity. It’s less about a specific person and more about capturing a moment we’ve all felt.

Mixed Media With Found Objects - Inspired by the depression-era farm of my grandparents in East Coventry PA. Forced to leave their home country in Eastern Europe and set up an new life from scratch in a totally unfamiliar culture, they had to totally step out of their comfort zone in order to survive and grow.

Acrylic - I began my art career at a later stage of life. Yet I have never let my age restrain me in any way from my passion - painting. When I think about my final years of life I think about how my art will fit in that picture. This painting appears to be representative of that final journey. It speaks to my need to always keep moving forward. To move physically, mentally and in my art practice. I know that during this journey I will keep learning, experimenting and working on my art. I intend to make my “Final Journey” holding a paintbrush.

Oil - ”The Writer” is about what remains when the world around us changes. The tools change. The rules change. What once seemed permanent disappears and something unfamiliar takes its place. Yet the need to create, to tell a story, to leave something behind remains. For me, pushing boundaries is partly about accepting that uncertainty — moving forward without knowing exactly what will be lost and what will survive. “Publishing moved on. The writer remained.”

Acrylic On Canvas - My work explores the quiet tension between structure and intuition. Through process-driven making, I am interested in how repetition, restraint, and subtle variation can hold emotional weight and invite sustained looking. I approach each piece as an accumulation of decisions—some deliberate, others responsive to the moment. Rather than aiming for resolution, I allow ambiguity to remain present, creating space for viewers to bring their own associations and interpretations. The work often reflects an attention to rhythm, balance, and the passage of time, revealing traces of both control and vulnerability. Materials and methods are central to my practice. I am drawn to processes that require patience and close observation, where small shifts become significant. These methods mirror my broader interest in how meaning is built gradually, through layers of experience rather than singular events. Ultimately, my work is an invitation to slow down. Whether physical or societal, boundaries exist keeping people where they are expected. My work directly confronts those invisible constraints. By employing saturated, unapologetic color, sweeping amorphic shapes, and raw, loose textures, the compositions shatter conventional expectations of beauty and traditional aesthetic principles. Instead of adhering to neat, predictable frameworks, my art creates a dynamic visual friction—a deliberate chaos that challenges the viewer to look past limitations and rethink what is acceptable, both on the canvas and beyond it.

Collage - In this stitched mixed media collage, I was going out on a limb stitching through wallpaper donated by the Sherwin Williams in Pottstown. The nest stitching is more abstract than what my stitched landscapes have been and it is enhanced dimensionally with the addition of twigs and brambles. The bird has claimed the woman, threading twigs around her like a crown and a cage. The sheet music beneath becomes the script of a ceremony she never chose, its tender lines now ominous with a ring awaiting. Her startled gaze is the moment of realization: she has been taken and is trapped. The feather at the edge is his calling card, proof of possession. This is intended to be a parody and it was super fun to create.

Framed Giclee Photographic Print - Rebecca Carpenter is a visual storyteller working at the intersection of figure, environment, and memory. Through photography and mixed media, she explores themes of transformation, presence, and the quiet tension between fragility and endurance. Her work often places the human form within spaces marked by time, abandoned structures, shifting landscapes, and constructed environments where light, texture, and atmosphere become active collaborators. Central to her practice is the use of the nude figure as an unguarded and essential presence. Through it, she examines visibility and erasure: how bodies are seen, overlooked, or held within imposed boundaries and how those boundaries can be challenged, redefined, or transcended. Rebecca’s images invite a quiet engagement, asking the viewer not only to observe, but to consider their own relationship to space, presence, and the unseen structures that shape how we live.

Ink - Lasting through or enduring a moment of experience to obtain a final outcome is frozen here in its movement on paper. This work does not seek an end product but rather focuses on captured momentum throughout a process in action.

Mixed Media: Fabric and Metal - Pushing the boundaries literally showing an object trajected through three frames. It allows the viewer to see the effects each Shoninin is making by hitting each frame. The use of the printed fabric creates motion in the background.

Oil On Canvas Paper Mounted On Panel - Antiquity abounds with exceptional people whose origin and character are explained by miraculous virgin/deity-induced birth. Of the many accounts of a god intervening to cause conception, the Christian version is probably the most fundamental to Western culture. I am fascinated by the depictions of the story, from austere ancient icons and frescoes, through monumental Baroque and florid Rococo, to contemporary imaginings with numinous or starkly graphic renderings, including earbuds and telephones. My own version is meant to focus on issues of consent and boundaries. I have long wondered whether, despite her "ecce ancilla domini", whether Mary had a real choice or willingness to participate in the experiment. The glorification of submissive accord is questioned in this virgin's doubtful expression and her foreboding future of entrapment symbolized in the caged bird at her window. Not only are her boundaries being pushed, but to question the traditional telling pushes on the boundaries of what is really acceptable about this story.

Mixed Media With Found Objects - Made out of two old items for sale in a flea market. They were propped up against each other and were totally unrelated. I decided to put the novelty guitar and unfinished portrait together just as I had found them, thus letting random chance determine the final composition. It is an uncomfortable thing sometimes for a creative to relinquish his creative control to the randomness of the universe.

Acrylic - “Scorched Again” is about fire and fear. Fear for the people affected by the devastating wildfires burning our forests and communities. On a personal level, fear for my family living in California where the fires rage every year. Painting the fire was a way of controlling that fear. It was a release of the tensions and emotions I was feeling as I watched the houses and forests being scorched yet again.

Mixed Media On Canvas - Unbound reflects my evolving approach to painting and my desire to move beyond the traditional boundaries of a flat, rectangular surface. Combining realism with abstraction, texture, layered foam, and sculptural elements, the work extends beyond the conventional picture plane and blurs the line between painting and sculpture.

Collage - “Goddess” was the first of the developing some contemporary portrait collages. Starting point was a black and white photo of 27 year old me by the terrific Will Santillo of @santillophoto in Toronto. I wonder what she would think of 68 year old me? Introducing “Goddess”, described by a collector as being “All of us. Enigmatic, creative, complex, and full of emotions.”

Acrylic On Canvas - Losing Myself” is symbolic to how addiction can slowly chisel away at a person’s inner energy, pushing them past boundaries they never thought they’d cross. While the colorful smoke seems like a sweet invitation from a habit that offers pleasure, it is a deeper symbol of how the habit slowly depletes the subject of her inner energy and joy. Over time, she will become an empty vessel of herself haunted only by the memories of who she once was. Aside from the deeper meaning, this piece is also the first time I played with sculpting acrylic to push past the boundary of the canvas and my own skills as an artist.

Charcoal - With fabric representing a consuming anxiety, this work chooses to vulnerably cover the most distinctive feature of the figure, the face. Affected by its touch, there is a distortion as to how an audience can relate to and view the figure in this state. Despite this they reach out and away, hoping for a light.

Oil - In this abstacted composition I am attempting to conceptually describe the origin theory of the universe called the Big Bang. I combined direct observation of the night sky with its immensity and beauty with the theories of the moment of the beginning of the universe.
