I am a "process oriented" artist. use traditional materials in an untraditional way to achieve a look hope to be mine. My paintings often begin with thin washes of paint followed by layered glazes of color. don't perceive myself as a realist by any means. Perhaps I moved into realism rather than from it. I continue to work on a body of paintings of anchorages along the Chesapeake Bay's Eastern Shore where my husband and spend our summers on our sailboat.A pervading sense of power accompanies the large sweeping skies. Many paintings are completed from smaller plein air studies. I work with layers of acrylic applied with my hands, rags, and yes, sometimes brushes.
I generally do not frame my work professionally. One, to keep the costs lower and also to allow the birch cradled frame on which the canvas is attached to allow the owner to readily hang the painting. I feel the appearance is contemporary and clean.
